Cassandra, You Got Old!

The single sound of the buk marks each minute — it is the clock. At each sound you are invited to change your task, or to stay and go deeper. Do as little or as much as you wish. Each task can be as simple or as complex as you choose. Wherever a task asks you to draw, write, or trace, do it with your whole body — your whole self moving through the space.

  1. Travel continuously in waves of 9 beats.
  2. Deep listen — 경청. Stop, and take in the sound of the score while you observe the space around you.
  3. Draw the Korean character — nine — with your whole body. Shapes made with your body, or a path you walk through the space. Keep making new versions.
  4. Find a partner. Take turns leading and following.
  5. Draw the Korean character — emptiness, the void — with your whole body. Trace it through the space, let it dissolve, and make it again.
  6. Copy 9 movements from the people around you. Make them your own.
  7. Say something into the air — a word, a warning, a truth no one asked for. Whether or not anyone hears.
  8. Move for 9, stop for 9, then clap and begin again.
  9. Think of a memory from a much younger age, and one from now. Let the years between them move you.
